New Distributed Capture White Paper Analyzes Value of Remote Scanning and Indexing

Published by Harvey Spencer, Sponsored by Datacap

Tarrytown, NY, March 10, 2005 - Datacap today announced immediate availability of a new white paper, entitled "Distributed Capture, How Remote Scanning And Indexing Could Benefit Your Organization". Published by Harvey Spencer Associates, recognized capture and forms processing industry analyst, this new paper provides an in-depth analysis of the value of remote scanning and indexing.

For organizations with paper documents generated in multiple locations, moving scanning and indexing functions to the point of origin saves on mail and courier expenses, speeding input and processing of documents. Capture products that leverage XML, such as Datacap Taskmaster Web, enable scanning and indexing over the Internet.

The White Paper examines the benefits to organizations that distribute scanning and indexing over the Internet, and provides parameters to measure its value. The document concludes with a detailed checklist that can be used to conduct analysis.

Also detailed are the various models of distributed capture in use today, including remote scanning, remote indexing, and remote scanning with indexing, among others. Organizations that have deployed distributed capture are profiled, including SIRVA (parent company of Allied Van Lines and North American Van Lines), T-Mobile, Merrill Lynch, and Taylor Bean & Whitaker (TBW), a major mortgage wholesaler. Merrill Lynch estimates its savings at $2 million per year. Doug Bowman, TBW’s Vice President of Product Development, reported that by distributing scanning to 12 regional offices, it dramatically reduced overnight courier expenses. According to Bowman, each regional center cut spending by an average of $30,000 a month.

The white paper also looks at the market drivers for the significant growth of distributed capture, including the new generation of low cost scanners and Multi Function Products (MFP’s), and distributed capture software that enables remote monitoring and administration to maintain control over the process.
