Kansas City Board of Public Utilities Selects Datacap Taskmaster to Capture Invoices/Business Documents
Taskmaster to process invoices and other documents for Provider of Water and Electric
August 27, 2004, Tarrytown, NY - Datacap announced today that the Kansas City, Kansas Board of Public Utilities has chosen Datacap Taskmaster to automate the processing of invoices and other accounts payable business documents, including purchase orders, credit memos and service orders. Datacap Solution Provider, Cutting Edge Solutions, of Kansas City, Missouri helped BPU find the right solution and will oversee implementation.
For nearly a century, Kansas City BPU has delivered water and electric service to Wyandotte and Johnson Counties of eastern Kansas. BPU will use Taskmaster's ability to scan and capture structured and unstructured documents, reducing costs and streamlining operations.
BPU selected Taskmaster due to its easy integration with leading scanners and ERP systems and complete document capture and forms processing capabilities. Images are generated by four Fujitsu 4097 scanners and one Fujitsu 4860, all with ScanRight VRS. Once data is captured from invoices and purchase orders, Taskmaster will upload invoice data to a PeopleSoft accounting system, and commit images and indexes to a Hyland OnBase document management system for storage and retrieval.
Once the AP automation solution is implemented, Jack Roberts of Cutting Edge Solutions explains that BPU will add remote scanning and verification capabilities from several Xerox centers, maintained by the utility throughout the two counties. For moderate volume scanning requirements, digital copy machines (also known as Multi Function Devices) can be deployed as document scanners feeding images to Taskmaster. "Taskmaster is a system capable of growing as BPU adds document types and more complexity," says Roberts. "When BPU asks for a new capability, it's nice to be able to say, 'You don't need more software. Taskmaster can do that for you.'"
