Canon and Datacap Publish New Survey On
Distributed Capture
Report Presents a
Comprehensive View Of Distributed Capture
Today
In June, Datacap
and Canon U.S.A. Inc. published an industry-wide survey exclusively
focused on distributed capture benefits, success factors and
barriers. Titled "Distributed Capture 2009," the report is the
result of more than 300 responses by a cross-section of
organizations involved in document processing. The
report presents a picture of a vibrant and growing capture
application.
Distributed capture
is the practice of linking multiple imaging and capture devices -
usually via the Internet - for organizations with dispersed
documents to accelerate input, reduce shipping costs and increase
accuracy. The survey sought to identify the benefits and key
expectations for those with deployed distributed capture systems, as
well as the barriers to entry for those not distributing capture.
Survey results were
analyzed and interpreted by Power Decisions Group, a marketing
research firm, based in San Francisco. The survey report has been
researched and written by Kevin Craine of Craine Communications
Group of Portland, Oregon.
Among the key
findings:
- MFP use in
distributed capture applications has grown from 24% in 2005 to 33%
in 2008
- The use of fax
servers dropped from 35% to 19%
- Manual data
indexing in distributed environments has dwindled by 20% over the
past three years
- Vendor
selection time has grown overall
- Most purchasing
decision makers are middle management
- Automated forms
processing, using OCR, has doubled over the past two years
"Datacap and Canon
recognize the importance of end-user research in one of the fastest
growing segments of the capture market," said Scott Blau, CEO of
Datacap. "This survey has confirmed some of our assumptions, and
shed new light on the value of distributed capture to widely
dispersed organizations. We are proud to partner with Canon on this
important research."

Information Access Systems Helps AMTIS Inc.
Improve Data Collection
Part of a Nationwide Effort to Raise the
Quality of Health Care for Veterans
AMTIS Inc. is a DOD
and Federal agency solutions provider that was recently awarded a
document management project with the US Department of Veterans
Affairs. The contract required an intelligent capture
solution to capture data from thousands of hand-filled surveys,
which include checkbox, machine print, and handprint.
AMTIS turned to
Datacap partner Information Access Systems, Inc., of Orlando,
Florida, a leading systems integrator specializing in Imaging,
Workflow, and Enterprise Content Management.
"AMTIS selected
Information Access Systems based on extensive evaluation, strong
government customer base and responsive technical support," said
Chief Operating Officer Burt Williams. "This advanced capture
solution will provide a rapid ROI for automating the time-consuming
collection and manual processing of this business critical
information."
AMTIS will support
and streamline the paper intensive survey processing workflow,
making it more accurate and efficient. The solution includes
Datacap's award winning Taskmaster capture software integrated with
Fujitsu document scanners, which work together to transform hardcopy
documents to electronic format.
"IAS continues to
see increasing demands in simplifying how organizations capture and
access document information used in key business processes," said
David Godiksen, President of Information Access Systems. "We look
forward to our continuing relationship with AMTIS and supporting our
joint commitment to delivering innovative solutions and services to
our customers." |

FastDoc Beta Program Filling Up
Users and Partners Eager to Test Datacap's
New Indexing Solution
FastDoc Capture
is Datacap's new document capture solution that applies
innovations developed for invoice capture to the task of
automating indexing. When released in the fall, it will be the first
recognition-assisted indexing solution that requires no complicated
set-up.
But first, we need help from
experienced capture specialists, using real world documents to push
the product in all directions and giving us feedback.
Designed with ease of use and
simplicity in mind, Datacap FastDoc Capture boasts a sleek new
interface, an easy way to add new documents and index fields, and
tight integration with Microsoft SharePoint. Index data can
also be exported as a flat file and easily converted for any
ECM repository on the market.
FastDoc Capture requires no programming
to set up and runs completely on a single client. You do not need
to install Taskmaster first; FastDoc is completely independent of
Taskmaster. If you wish to test FastDoc with SharePoint, there will
be some set-up of the tables, but Sharepoint integration is not
required to be a FastDoc Beta tester.
Beta testers must be existing
Datacap customers with up-to-date maintenance agreements or
certified Datacap Channel partners. If approved, you will be asked
to run FastDoc Capture for a period of several weeks, and then
report findings to Datacap in a simple form. As thanks, beta testers
will receive special benefits from Datacap, including discounts on
purchasing FastDoc.
