"Capture Versatility at BlueCross BlueShield" - Live
Webinar
Join Datacap on December 13 - Going Beyond Claims to Create a True "Digital Mailroom"
Some say the reality of the "Digital Mailroom," where
all paper is digitized the moment it arrives at an organization, is still a few
years away. Not so at BlueCross BlueShield of Arizona, where they've extended a
claims scanning and capture system into an enterprise-wide "capture portal" to
digitize everything from claims and enrollments to legal
and human resources documents.
Scaling up a department-level solution across the
enterprise is much more than a technical challenge. In a large organization
like BCBSAZ, it's a cultural and political challenge as well. Attend this free
Datacap webinar on Wednesday, December 13 at 2 PM, as Ed Davis of BCBSAZ takes
us on a virtual tour of the innovative solution, and discusses how they achieve
consensus across so many departments.

A Great Best Practices Study For Users
Since 2001, when BCBSAZ first installed Datacap
Taskmaster, the organization has more than tripled their document volume, yet
required only a small increase in staff. As impressive of the ROI is, even more
instructive is the methodology used to systematically add documents to the
capture system. BCBSAZ's Finance department presides over a Total Quality
process that gathers all stakeholders in the outcome to assess needs, define
goals and re-examine processes before attempting to capture automate.
No matter what documents you capture today - claims,
invoices, medical records, insurance policies - chances are there are many
other departments in your organization that are receiving paper, which could
benefit from automated capture. Before considering an expansion
to maximize the value of your capture investment, find out the do's and
don't's of extensibility from someone who's been there.

Datacap User Group News
Notes From the Technical Advisory Panel
On November 20, members of the Datacap TAP (Technical
Advisory Panel) met, along with Datacap representatives, to discuss next steps
for the user group, which was officially launched at Datacap's User Conference
in September.
Chaired by Datacap's Director of Marketing Arthur
Gehring, the agenda including determining a name and defining
priorities. Following a unanimous vote for Datacap User Group (or DUG, for
short), the immediate priorities for the User Group were defined as:
1. Increase the breadth of technical information
available to Datacap customers through the on-line knowledge base (see
www.datacap.com/support) and more technically-oriented case studies geared to
existing users.
2. Open more lines of communication between customers
for peer-to-peer networking as well as between Datacap and its users. It was
decided that the Forum will be opened to all members of the Datacap User Group
(stay tuned for sign-up info).
"Users need to know that they have peer resources and
people to reach out to when they need information," said TAP member Steve
Emrick from BMI, who is also a key member of Datacap partner OIT's User
Group.
For more information about the Datacap User Group and
to sign up for the forum, please visit: www.datacap.com/group. This is a great
time to become an active member of DUG and help shape its direction.
"SOA - The Da Vinci Code of IT" - New Recorded
Webinar
Decoding the Mysteries of Web Services
Engineers love acronyms and SOA is just one of the
latest to confound those of use who are not up-to-the-minute in IT. Even when
you spell it out, Services Oriented Architecture doesn't clarify much. But it
turns out to be a powerful new way to put software to work and it is changing
the face of capture.
In this 25-minute webinar, using the world's most
famous architect, Leonardo Da Vinci, as his inspiration, Datacap CEO Scott Blau
explains what SOA is all about and how Web Services - the building blocks of
SOA - can be used to build a flexible, adaptable and cost-effective capture
solution.

If you're not sure what SOA is or what Web Services
are, this webinar will spell it out for you. If you're about to invest in a
capture solution, this webinar will widen your perspective on the
considerations you'll need to keep in mind.
If you already have a capture system - from Datacap
or a competitor - and you want to add more capabilities to it, this webinar
will show you how you can use Datacap's Capture Web Service to add what you
need, including OCR/ICR recognition, export formatting, validations, and even
special scanning functions. As you will see during the brief demonstration, the
Datacap Capture Web Service will run in Taskmaster, in Kofax Ascent Capture,
FileNet Capture and even internally-developed capture systems.

Tips and Tricks
Mastering The Fundamentals
Every once in a while, you'll hear sports coaches and
CEOs recommending a "return to fundamentals." In that same spirit, Datacap News
Tips and Tricks will focus on the fundamentals of
good system maintenance in the next few issues.
Use AutoDelete to Delete Batches -
When it comes to retention policies, every organization and every industry is
different. Whether you delete batches after one or after six weeks, one thing
is true, there comes a time when you have to delete batches or records from
your Taskmaster system. Some users simply use the Taskmaster Job Monitor for
this task, but for high volume production, it is much too time consuming.
Which is why using AutoDelete for pre-scheduled,
automated deletion is such a great option. You can use it to delete
records only, batches only or records and batches. You can also run it
manually. Use it to make your life easier! To read more about
AutoDelete, peruse Chapter 7 of the Taskmaster Admin Guide in your
documentation.
In future installments, we'll revisit other basics of
Taskmaster. For now, Datacap wishes you all a safe and happy holiday season!
