20/20 Capture Conference Draws Largest Attendance

Dedicated to achieving a total vision of document capture, the 2008 20/20 Capture Conference delivered on its promise. More than 100 resellers, end users and technology partners took over the state-of-the-art IBM Palisades Conference Center in New York's Hudson Valley. Steve Kaye, Datacap's new VP of Sales and Marketing, kicked off the General Session on Monday morning, September 15, and two days of presentations, educational sessions, great meals, and raucous entertainment ensued.

By the end, all aspects of scanning, capture, workflow and ECM had been explored and Datacap had celebrated its 20th Anniversary in its own unique style.

The highlights of the two-day conference included Rich Medina, Principle Analyst from Doculabs, on the importance of benchmarking capture as well as user presentations from Blue Chip Datacap customers, including Goodyear, BlueCross BlueShield of Arizona, Sharp HealthCare, Operating Engineers, Capital BlueCross, and Murphy-Hoffman, among others. Technical sessions focused on previewing various aspects of the new Taskmaster 7.5 release due to begin shipping October 1.

On Monday night, everyone was treated to Datacap's 20th birthday banquet outside under the tent, next to the pond stocked with koi. After a meal that featured the leading American cuisines of the past 20 years, folks began loosening up in Minwin's on-site photo studio, where they dressed up and posed for instant print-outs that many looked at the next day and, most likely, wondered what they were thinking.

Datacap founders Noel Kropf and Scott Blau get into the birthday spirit!

Sweet Dorit as "Wonder Woman" began the live entertainment that included a return appearance by Joey Gay of "Last Comic Standing," who spared no one in his act, and then gave way to the drum-fueled grooves of the band "Raquy and The Cavemen." As they closed out the Banquet, we all looked up to see a full moon rising over the trees. It was a glorious ending to a wild night of enjoyment.

2008 Datacap Excellence Awards

Datacap Recognizes End Users

Datacap created its Excellence Awards to recognize customers that have pushed our technology to its limits, demonstrated an exemplary process for implementation, or otherwise shown a strong commitment to working together to achieve success. In 2008, Datacap recognized four end users among the many applications installed in the previous year. While most of our end users are worthy of praise, four were worth extra mention.

Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company

Datacap has found that the success of complex applications with demanding business requirements - including Dow Jones, Virginia Tax, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona, SIRVA, Keuhne + Nagel, and others - depend on good communications, careful project management, and a willingness to tackle issues head on. This year, the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, working with Datacap Channel partner EKI Consulting, was awarded our highest honor.

The Goodyear team, consisting of Accounts Payable and IT, made a commitment to assure the success of the complex process of automating invoice data entry. The Taskmaster for Invoices application integrates FileNet, SAP, Lotus Notes, and Canon scanners, and is complicated further by significant document volume and complex workflows. Yet, Goodyear showed a special understanding of how Datacap technology works and managed the entire process in an exemplary manner.

Operating Engineers Funds (Local 12)

Sometimes an organization can use technology to transform itself so dramatically that they must be acknowledged for the extraordinary distance they traveled in a short period of time. Operating Engineers Funds (OEF) of southern California is such an organization. Datacap partner Capitol-Image installed Taskmaster for Medical Claims to automated health claim capture for OEF membership and dramatically streamlined a very cumbersome paper process. Integrated with OnBase from Hyland Software and Bowe Bell + Howell scanners, this application has saved the union thousands of dollars in reduced headcount, reduced storage space and a much more accurate and rapid processing of claims.

Murphy-Hoffman Company

Any time a company can demonstrate a significant Return On Investment and do it quickly, Datacap believes we must acknowledge it. Murphy-Hoffman Company (MHC), a trucking sales and leasing powerhouse in the Midwest, worked closely with Datacap partner Cutting Edge Solutions to connect 61 remote sites with distributed scanning using Fujitsu scanners, Taskmaster Web and Hyland Software. By their own estimation, MHC will save more than $400,000 every year in document shipping costs and improved processes, making them a Datacap Excellence Award Recipient in 2008.

Kent County, Michigan

While the focus of Datacap Excellence Awards is often on large and complex applications, sometimes a smaller organization can demonstrate the proper way to integrate new technologies and improve processes. Kent County, Michigan began with a vision to transform its paper system to a county-wide electronic content management system. The County's IT team recognized that introducing new technology is primarily a "people issue," and they began with a high profile department where they knew they could deliver impressive results and build a successful program that other departments would clamor to join. Datacap partner DatabankIMX installed Taskmaster for Invoices, integrated with PeopleSoft, Hyland OnBase and Fujitsu scanners to automate the county's Accounts Payable and Purchasing System. The program has been so successful that they are rolling it out now to the court system, with HR and other departments not far behind, and in the process, demonstrated Best Practices introducing an enterprise scanning application to local government.

2008 Datacap Channel Awards

September is also the time of year when Datacap recognizes excellence among its Channel partners. Datacap is continuing to build and strengthen its Channel program to make it the most competitive program in the capture business. Datacap created the Channel Excellence Awards to recognize outstanding Channel Partners who represent Datacap at its best and help us push our products and services into new markets. Congratulations to the 2008 winners:

CES is also helping to introduce new improvements to the enterprise-wide application at BlueCross BlueShield of Arizona.
